The name of "TANJONG PUTERI" was derived
from the historical name of JOHOR BAHRU, then a
settlement founded by the Temenggong Dynasty of
Johor in 1855 when it moved its administrative centre
from Telok Belanga in Singapore to Johor. Subsequently
"TANJONG PUTERI" was renamed "ISKANDAR
PUTERI" in 1858 and was later decreed by Sultan
Abu Bakar as "JOHOR BAHRU" on 1st January
1866.
